Curiosities of the week -3

Week 4 is almost over but here we bring some (of the) curiosities of week 3 at WTCOC 2023. 

  • A total of 16 matches, 79 duels and 198 carcassonne games were played. One duel was not played (ohlookcake, UK vs zaharik, Ukraine). 
  • Of the 79 duels, 39 finished in two games and 40 went to the third games. 
  • Of the 198 games, 6 ended in draws and 6 games were lost on time. This is almost the amount accumulated in the first two weeks, since there are already 14 games decided by time and 14 that end in a draw.
  • With 161 points, BBKosta from RCP scored the new highest winning score.
  • The first game between wikri (Cze) and renebulsara (Gua) resulted in a new highest combined score: 275 points (144+131).
  • RamboPang43200 from Malaysia is the second player this year to have 2 games end in a draw. They won both games.
  • The match between Brazil and Taiwan was the first to have 2 draws. Both tiebreakers went in favor of Taiwan.
  • G0dfriedvanBouillon (Ned) and JackOneillsk (Sk) share *two* week 3 records:  They jointly scored the largest city in their first game, and the longest road in their third game. (G0dfriedvanBouillon won both games, winning the duel 2-1)
  • During week 3 (and part of week 4) the “team Elo” of 17 teams dropped, but 13 teams now have a higher team Elo: Taiwan (+37), Hungary (+67), and Peru (+69) showed impressive gains!
  • Both the USA and Malaysia have the same team Elo that they had at the beginning of week 3. “Steady as she goes!”
  • Belgium’s 2-3 loss against Greece was their 9th consecutive WTCOC-game that ended in a 3-2 win or loss. That makes it the longest close game streak ever.
  • Romania beat champion Japan by a score of 1-4. All duels were decided in the third game. In that game, tabado (Ro) and Chris_TRAPS (Jpn) didn’t make monastery points. And also, Ervin_G finished his games in 2:00, 2:05 and 2:36 minutes, averaging ~3.5 seconds per move.
  • Casumlolla (Cat) lost his duel against krisna (Lat) due to losing the first and third games on time. In one game there were 49 tiles remaining when Casumlolla ran out of time, so they had to play 15 more moves before BGA would allow Casumlolla to concede.

Week 3 Records:

  • A 13 point road was scored by G0dfriedvanBouillon (Ned) and jackOneillsk (Sk) at table #370821209 on turn 96
  • A 40 point city was scored by jackOneillsk (Sk) and G0dfriedvanBouillon (Ned) at table #370818096 on turn 121
  • A 33 point field was scored by ted the notty bear (UK) at table 372455227 on turn 138
  • Both BBKosta (RCP) and ht_bry (Chl) scored a total of 41 monastery points. BBKosta scored 4 complete and 1 incomplete monasteries, and ht_bry scored 2 complete and 3 incomplete monasteries.

Fun Fact of the week:

  • rabaca (Portugal) was coming back from holiday at the time of their duel against the USA. Because he did not see the flight time when they scheduled, he had to play in the airport just before getting on the plane. Since the setting was Abu Dhabi Airport, he also had a hard time finding an european plug. But that didn’t stop him from helping Portugal with their 5-0 win.

Ya casi termina la semana 4 pero aquí traemos algunas (de las) curiosidades de la semana 3 en el WTCOC 23. 

  • Se jugaron 16 partidos, 79 duelos y 198 juegos de Carcassonne. Pues un duelo no se disputó (ohlookcake, UK vs. zaharik, Ucrania).
  • De los 79 duelos, 39 terminaron en dos juegos y 40 fueron al tercer juego.
  • De los 198 juegos, 6 terminaron en empate y 6 juegos se perdieron por tiempo. Esta es casi lo acumulado en las dos primeras semanas, pues ya son 14 partidos decididos por tiempo y 14 que terminan en empate.
  • Con 161 puntos, BBKosta de RCP obtuvo la nueva puntuación ganadora más alta.
  • El primer juego entre wikri (Cze) y renebulsara (Gua) resultó en una nueva puntuación combinada más alta: 275 puntos (144+131)
  • RamboPang43200 de Malasia es el segundo jugador este año en tener 2 juegos que terminan en empate. Ganaron los dos juegos.
  • El partido entre Brasil y Taiwán fue el primero en tener 2 empates. Ambos desempates fueron a favor de Taiwán.
  • G0dfriedvanBouillon (Ned) y JackOneillsk (Sk) comparten *dos* récords de la semana 3: juntos puntuaron la ciudad más grande en su primer juego y el camino más largo en su tercer juego. (G0dfriedvanBouillon ganó ambos juegos, ganando el duelo 2-1)
  • Durante la semana 3 (y parte de la semana 4) el “Elo de equipo” de 17 equipos cayó, pero 13 equipos ahora tienen un equipo Elo más alto: Taiwán (+37), Hungría (+67) y Perú (+69) mostraron impresionantes ¡ganancias!
  • Tanto EE. UU. como Malasia tienen el mismo Elo de equipo que tenían al comienzo de la semana 3. “¡Sigue así!”
  • Rumania venció al campeón Japón por un marcador de 1-4. Todos los duelos se decidieron en el tercer juego. En ese juego, tabado (Ro) y Chris_TRAPS (Jpn) no hicieron puntos de monasterio. Y también, Ervin_G (Ro) terminó sus partidas en 2:00, 2:05 y 2:36 minutos, teniendo una media aproximada de 3.5 segundos por jugada.
  • Casumlolla (Cat) perdió su duelo por tiempo contra Krisna (Lat), jugaron tres juegos pues Casumlolla perdió el primero y el tercero por tiempo. En un juego se acabó el tiempo cuando quedaban 49 losetas, por lo que la BGA no les permitió concedery tuvieron que jugar 15 movimientos más y solo entonces conceder.

Récords de la semana 3:

  • G0dfriedvanBouillon (Ned) y jackOneillsk (Sk) puntuaron un camino de 13 puntos en la mesa n.º 370821209 en el turno 96.
  • JackOneillsk (Sk) y G0dfriedvanBouillon (Ned) puntuaron una ciudad de 40 puntos en la mesa n.º 370818096 en el turno 121.
  • Ted the notty bear (Reino Unido) puntuó un campo de 33 puntos en la mesa 372455227 en el turno 138
  • Tanto BBKosta (RCP) como ht_bry (Chl) sumaron un total de 41 puntos  por monasterios. BBKosta puntuó 4 monasterios completos y 1 incompleto, y ht_bry puntuó 2 monasterios completos y 3 incompletos.

Dato curioso de la semana:

  • rabaca (Portugal) regresaba de vacaciones en el momento de su duelo contra Estados Unidos. Debido a que no vio la hora del vuelo cuando lo programaron, tuvo que jugar en el aeropuerto justo antes de subir al avión. Dado que el escenario era el aeropuerto de Abu Dhabi, también tuvo dificultades para encontrar un enchufe europeo. Pero eso no le impidió ayudar a Portugal con su victoria por 5-0.
